Cuts: From what you describe it, I think they got it right. I have seen some male behavior at the athletic club where I go, and a lot of fellows seem more comfortable with the detachment that it allows. The horseshoe defines a beginning and an end, which makes it easier to know where to begin without asking directions.

My main workout these days is an aerobics class. I feel like I am in a chorus line, and I love it. I have been following dance caller instructions my entire life, and I am happy to let the instructions go in my ears and out my feet/arms/etc. I am part of the group, and we are either working to achieve synchrony or ignoring each other. I am more motivated to go to a class where I am given instructions, than to have to be responsible for my own workout routine.
