Don't worry about apologizing for a rant! I understand completely. I felt that way about Twilight (which does make HP look like a feminist work, though it absolutely is NOT, whether Hermione is plucky or not), though I read it, in order to know what my students were on about.

I would be curious to know what 'school' fiction stories you read around age 12!!
