O Brave New World...

I cannot remember the names or authors of any of them. We used to go to the Children's Library and borrow stuff every week. They were all set in English boarding schools (mostly girls' schools in my case) and had the same stuff about the school bully, the good teachers, the bad teachers, the nice gardener and whatever. Written to a formula. A couple of years ago I went to an evening of women crime writers talking about their books and one of them was an English woman who had set her story in precisely one of these settings. There were no copies of her book and now I've forgotten her name, but it might have been interesting to revist the genre in that way - I prefer crime to magic ;)
