Day 307: Kindergarten memories
Sep. 27th, 2012 06:49 pmI have very few memories of kindergarten, and I feel like I've written about it before. There was one thing I approved of aesthetically about it, and that was that the room -- which was in a brick school that looked like it was built in the 1940s maybe? -- was circular, or a lot of it was. It was like a circular edge of a giant rectangular yellow brick building, in Madison, Wisconsin. Marquette Elementary School.
The stupid thing I remember about that room was that the kindergarten teacher (whom I loathed, and rebelled against, and drove my mother frantic about, because I would pitch fits about going to school, my only ever tantrums, and she DID NOT HAVE TIME TO FUCK WITH THAT, because she had to go to work!) took advantage of the space by making us practice various... gaits... around the circumference of the room. We had to run, to hop, to skip... what else is there? If there is another gait, we had to do that, too. I thought it was insanely stupid. I remember learning NOTHING ELSE AT ALL during kindergarten.
Otherwise, I remember that on Fridays we got chocolate milk instead of white milk, and that we were allowed to blow bubbles in it with our straw. This was a great privilege, apparently. And my major memory: I remember we had naptime, and that we all had to bring our own nap time mat with us, the first day of school. They were generally padded soft vinyl, in three folding sections. Mine was ochre on one side, and orange on the other. And the teacher made me sleep in a completely different section of the room, away from everyone else, apparently because I wouldn't shut up. I don't remember the talking to other kids; I just remember the isolation treatment.
PS -- what am I going to do once I reach 310??? Does anyone have a link to OTHER meme questions I can substitute in, until I get to Day 340 (which returns to "what do you remember about blahdy-blah grade")? So dumb.
