Much of this journal is friends-only. Not all of it. If you want to read the stuff I don't feel like my current or former students should be reading, given this age of electronic connectivity, then tell me who you are and why I should add you.

Contents: some politics, of the sane and flexible but still revolutionary marxist variety; more daily babbling; occasional memeage; talk about books and education; random nonsense. Thank you very much.

How does it work?

I thought you didn't believe in anonymous comments? Except I am pretty much 99% sure that this is L., yes? Anyway, assuming it's you, joining is easy, and can be free -- a basic account, which is free, doesn't even show ads. Some other fancier free account does include ads. Anyway, here's the link to the join page:

https://www.livejournal.com/create.bml

You don't have to keep a journal going once you create an account, but once you've created it, you can friend me, and I'll reciprocate, and then you'll be able to read my journal as usual.

PS -- the Bernie is for you, though she's pretty ungermane to this post/comment.

Hi AQ! I am so happy that I finally got to meet you and I had a really wonderful time hanging out this weekend. I've friended you; hope that is ok.

Best,

Bekah

Sure. I'll go friend you in a minute. I am kind of not liking this friends-only status. But the lurker factor had me squicked, at one point. I wish there was a way to REJECT people who friend you, apart from by not friending them back. A way to make sure they don't appear on your friended-by list.

Anyway, I don't know if this status will continue, because some of my friends who aren't on LJ are dragging their feet about getting a free account just to be able to check in. Blah.

I saw a comment of yours over at slit's journal, and needed to add you to my friend's list based on that.

Look at the second comment in this thread, the one with Bernadette Devlin as my icon. Follow the link to the page that allows you to set up an account. Set up a free basic account-- so you'll have to make up a username and password, and fill out various parts of a profile, though most of it's optional. Then, once you've made your free account, log in, come back here, go to my "User Info" page (on the navigation panel to the left of this thread) and click on the little icon that looks like a person's head, shoulders, and little yellow plus sign. That adds my journal as a "friended journal" to yours. When you've done that, I will be able to reciprocate, and you will be able to read anything that is friends' locked.

hi--I just friended you. I hope that is okay. I am a teacher too in Brooklyn and a friend of bikenerd and brklyndispatch (now atthesametime) which is how I found your journal. I am not teaching now because I am on bedrest with a high risk pregnancy, so I have lots of time to lj!

No, that's really cool. I remember reading your comments in then-bklyndispatch's LJ, and liking them. Friended back. I didn't KNOW he'd changed his username. So I'm glad about that. I guess I thought he'd just stopped blogging.

What do you teach, ordinarily? I guess I can go look at your journal, too.

My icon in this comment is one of my more favorite teachers, Louise Michel.

Hi! I added you because you're a public school teacher and I plan to be one. We both talk Marxist politics. Other than that, you can check out my LJ and see if want to add me.

Hi!
Well, I found your LJ by looking for people with similar interests - I see we have a few things in common from your interests (Bollywood, Shah Rukh (!), Cyndi Lauper, Feminism, Hindi/Urdu) so..want to be friends? 8D

Cool, friended. I am pretty into learning Hindi, that's for sure. SRK is not my favorite, but I'm softening on him. I just watched Om Shanti Om for the second time, and I am in the middle of Swades from Netflix. Right this moment I just got home from seeing Tashan in the theater. It was EXCELLENT! So fun. I'm liking Saif Ali Khan more and more, actually. He was great in Omkara.

Hello)
I am left-oriented sociology student from Ukraine. I've added you because you seem to be an interesting person with views close to mine. I'd want to read you friends-only posts but can't offer you interesting reading in exchange because my journal is mostly in Ukrainian.

The interests of yours I can read are interesting -- pardon the redundancy; it's Sunday morning after an unusual Saturday night out drinking frou frou drinks -- so sure, come on along. I don't know that you'll find it all that fascinating, really: the proportion of personal to political is getting larger.

I've been seeing you over at sabotabby's for a while; I'll add you with this read-and-comment journal. I'm a first year teacher (in fact, I went to school with sabotabby) in a First Nations reserve in Manitoba.

Teaching French

If you are still teaching French, I highly recommend doing TPRS. It takes time to learn, but it is worth every moment! The teacher who does it well, actually, a couple of them, can be googled on the web like: Jason Fritze, Susan Gross and Ben Slavic. Good luck!

I'm not, in fact, teaching French this year (though I was, for two classes out of my six, last year). But thanks. I like TPRS. It was one of many approaches emphasized during my own training, and, well, yeah. People use it in other than teaching foreign or second languages, too.
